Flooding Forces Road Closures in Fiji: What You Need to Know!

Several roads in Fiji’s Northern Division have been closed due to flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall, prompting urges for caution among motorists. Affected routes include the Soasoa Flat on Wainikoro Road, Tabia low-level crossing on Tabia Road, Zailav low-level crossing road, and others. The closures extend to the Buavou low-level crossing on Buavou Road in Seaqaqa, Naqumu low-level crossing on Naqumu Road, Lalakoro low-level crossing on Lalakoro Road, and Namuavoivoi Splash crossing #3 on Sigawe, Namuavoivoi Road.

Konasami low-level crossing on Dreketilailai Road in Labasa remains accessible but is limited to 4×4 vehicles. In the nearby Western Division, a partial washout at the Balevuto crossing in Ba has restricted access, while the Toge crossing in Ba is fully closed to all traffic.

Similar situations were observed previously, with the Fiji Roads Authority actively monitoring the conditions and prioritizing safety as they work towards restoring access to affected roads. As the authorities assess the situation, residents and commuters are encouraged to remain alert and updated on travel conditions, as the weather can change rapidly.

It’s important to remember that while these road closures impose challenges, they also highlight the community’s resilience during adverse weather events. Authorities are doing their utmost to manage these difficulties, ensuring that safety remains paramount. With cooperation and cautious navigation, there is hope for improved road conditions soon.
