A flood alert has been issued for vulnerable regions in Ba, as well as the Nasivi and Nakauvadra rivers, due to a high tide expected at 1:30 PM today. As of 12:30 PM, the water level at the Ba Fiji Sugar Corporation station reached 3.69 meters, surpassing the warning threshold and continuing to rise. Similarly, the Nakauvadra town center station recorded a water level of 2.59 meters, also above the warning level and on the rise.
According to the Nadi weather office, an active trough of low pressure accompanied by clouds and rain is affecting the country, which could exacerbate the flooding situation.
It’s crucial for residents in affected areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this time. Local authorities are likely to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as the situation evolves.
Although floods can be challenging, efforts by local agencies and community resilience play a pivotal role in addressing such natural events. With the proper response measures in place, communities can work together to reduce the impact of flooding and support one another during this difficult time.
