In an exhilarating showdown, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua faced off against Moana Pasifika, ending in a 26-40 defeat. Despite the loss, player Tuidraki Samusamuvodre celebrated a personal milestone, scoring his first-ever try in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific on Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Samusamuvodre’s try marked an emotional moment for him, contributing to the team’s opener on home ground, known affectionately as the “Fortress.” Reflecting on his achievement, he expressed the joy of crossing the try line, stating, “After five seasons, it’s good to cross over the try-line and I think it was the most exciting thing for me after five years.” Samusamuvodre has been with the Drua since their inception while based in Lennox Hill, New South Wales, Australia.

While celebrating his achievement, Samusamuvodre acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, particularly with discipline issues that played a role in the loss. “We focused on discipline in this game, but unfortunately we made a lot of mistakes,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of learning from these lapses as they prepare for their next match.

Looking ahead, the Fijian Drua will take on the New South Wales Waratahs this Friday at 8:35 PM at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, marking their first away game of the season. Samusamuvodre, who plays as a fly-half and full-back, hails from Namotomoto in Nadi and will be eager to build on his debut try while helping the team improve their performance.
