International School Suva swimmer Manisha Rye is relishing the competitive atmosphere of the 2025 National Schools Age Group Swimming Championships, which she describes as the most exhilarating edition in her four-year tenure at the school. The event has gained added significance this year through live broadcast coverage on FBC, attracting an enthusiastic audience both in the venue and at home.
Rye has yet to secure a medal in this prestigious competition, but her determination remains strong as she strives for a podium finish. “The age group is pretty high this year because it’s 17-19, but the energy is really high with more spectators watching this year,” she commented.
Her teammates benefit from robust support from the school, which has been pivotal in helping them maximize their potential in competitions. Rye is participating in several events including the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, and both the 4x50m freestyle and medley relays.
The championships are continuing at the Aquatic Centre in Suva, where approximately 700 swimmers from over 50 schools, including defending champions Marist Brothers High School and Saint Joseph’s Secondary School, are competing for top honors. The notable representation from schools reflects the growing popularity of swimming in Fiji, inspiring community involvement and engagement in youth sports.
This year’s competition not only provides a platform for showcasing talent but also encourages personal growth and resilience among young athletes. The excitement surrounding the event is expected to promote a bright future for swimming in Fiji, making it an inspiring occasion for participants and supporters alike.
