The Education Ministry in Fiji has reported an 86 percent pass rate for the Year 13 Certificate Examination this year, a slight decrease from 91 percent in 2023. Despite this dip, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has expressed his congratulations to schools that have demonstrated improvements in their results.

Two government schools particularly stood out: Adi Cakobau School, which increased its pass rate from 97 percent to 98 percent, and Vunisea Secondary, which saw a remarkable jump from 83 percent to 97 percent. Additionally, Radrodro acknowledged ten secondary schools that achieved a perfect 100 percent pass rate, including Nadarivatu Secondary, Nilsen High, and Jai Narayan College, among others.

The Minister emphasized the importance of parents and guardians engaging in discussions with their children regarding their examination results. He stressed the need for students to feel supported as they consider their next steps, whether that be in higher education, vocational training, or beginning their careers. Radrodro commended the collective efforts of teachers, students, and parents, which have clearly contributed to the students’ achievements. He also encouraged those who will continue their studies to remain focused on their academic goals.

This year’s results, while showing a slight decline overall, highlight the resilience and growth in certain schools and the dedication of the entire educational community in Fiji. It is a reminder that each cohort brings its own challenges, but the commitment to education remains strong. The supportive approach championed by the Ministry can inspire students to excel further in their academic journeys.

In summary, while the overall pass rate has decreased, the achievement stories within the educational system showcase progress, and the encouragement for open conversations about education underscores the community’s commitment to fostering future success.
