The recent 14-day working visit by Fijian officials to the UK has proven to be highly beneficial for the Fijian diaspora residing there. This outreach program has provided much-needed access to a variety of essential government services that many expatriates could not easily access before.

Hundreds lined up to engage with the visiting officials, seeking to complete important administrative processes. Notably, individuals like Wilfred, who has been living in the UK for over a decade, expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity, stating that it felt like returning to Fiji. He successfully completed the Vola-ni Kawa-Bula registration—an important family lineage document—and explored investment options with the iTaukei Lands Trust Board.

Wilfred shared his enthusiasm, mentioning that he had previously traveled to Fiji without being able to finalize these processes, but the convenience of the visiting delegation allowed him and his peers to achieve everything in mere hours. Additionally, he suggested that the Fijian government consider establishing a ministerial role dedicated to overseas Fijian affairs to enhance ongoing support for the diaspora.

The Minister for iTaukei Affairs also highlighted the invaluable contributions of overseas Fijians, acknowledging their support for families back home and their roles in national development. His affirmation of the diaspora’s significance reiterates a shared commitment to fostering strong ties between Fiji and its citizens living abroad.

This initiative not only strengthens the connection between Australia and its citizens abroad but also lays the groundwork for future engagements aimed at improving the welfare and involvement of expatriates in national development processes. With aspirations of making this visit an annual affair, the hope remains that such outreach will continue to yield positive outcomes for the Fijian community worldwide.
