Tourism investments in Fiji are on the rise, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka. During his address on the 2025-2026 National Budget in Parliament, Gavoka revealed that the country has 177 active projects totaling $5.8 billion, many of which aim to expand Fiji’s accommodation offerings.

On the aviation front, Fiji Airways is flying to 25 destinations and has transported over two million passengers, marking significant progress for the nation’s connectivity and tourism capacity. Gavoka acknowledged the contributions of outgoing CEOs Andre Viljoen of Fiji Airways and Brent Hill of Tourism Fiji for their leadership in the industry’s growth.

In conjunction with these investments, Gavoka mentioned a 25% investment allowance for capital investments in tours and sightseeing operations. While maintaining incentives for accommodation is crucial, he emphasized the need to diversify tourism products. He stated, “New experiences mean more spending, deeper engagement, and stronger local economies,” reiterating the importance of creating varied and enriching experiences for visitors.

This announcement aligns with previous discussions about Fiji’s tourism sector, which has seen impressive growth even amidst global challenges. Earlier reports indicated that Fiji recorded over 929,740 visitor arrivals in 2023, contributing approximately $3.2 billion to the economy. Gavoka maintains that tourism remains a pivotal growth driver, with ongoing initiatives aimed at attracting additional investments and enhancing the visitor experience across the country.

Overall, the optimistic sentiment surrounding Fiji’s tourism sector suggests a bright future, with the potential for sustained growth and increased investment in local communities, ultimately benefiting the economy as a whole. The strategic focus on diversifying tourism products and enhancing infrastructure reinforces Fiji’s commitment to creating a resilient tourism industry that can thrive in the years ahead.
