People First has been officially registered as the newest political party in Fiji, marking a significant development in the nation’s political landscape. The party’s application received approval from the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, after it was submitted on November 20th of the previous year.
Mataiciwa noted that during the registration process, four objections were raised concerning the party’s name, symbol, and certain provisions in its constitution. After thorough evaluation, all objections were dismissed, paving the way for the party’s official recognition. Those who objected now have 14 days to appeal the Registrar’s decision to the Electoral Commission.
With the addition of People First, there are now a total of eight registered political parties recognized by the Fijian Elections Office. This expansion reflects a growing diversity in political representation and opportunities for engagement in Fiji’s democratic processes.
