Forty-seven tenants from the Public Rental Board in Narere have received offer letters enabling them to purchase their own land at significantly reduced prices. Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, described this initiative as a pivotal step towards achieving inclusive homeownership for all Fijians. He stated, “This initiative represents a transition from uncertainty to stability, and from tenancy to homeownership.”

Nalumisa highlighted that these efforts are part of the government’s ongoing commitment to improve housing accessibility for low-income families and vulnerable communities across Fiji. The lots are being offered at prices well below market rates, providing these families with the opportunity to secure better financing options through the Housing Authority of Fiji or other preferred financial institutions. These initiatives are designed to simplify the transition to homeownership, featuring affordable payment plans, clear land titles, and structured support.

In previous initiatives, similar measures have been undertaken to strengthen housing support across Fiji. For instance, the government allocated $2 million to assist families in securing stable housing, where several families received offer letters for their new homes. Nalumisa has previously pointed out that homeownership fosters community engagement, thereby positively impacting social and economic conditions.

Moreover, the Ministry of Housing has been proactive in addressing broader housing challenges, evident in their commitment to providing additional financing options, including zero-deposit home loans to alleviate entry barriers for potential homeowners. The government continues to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure accessible housing solutions for every Fijian.
