SUN Insurance Company Ltd has reached a significant milestone by signing a long-term lease agreement with Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals for the entirety of its new Sun Centre 2 building in Nadi, before the completion of construction. The $30 million project, which spans 3,845 square meters, is anticipated to be finished by the third quarter of 2025, further expanding PSH’s capabilities in healthcare services.
Chairman Padam Lala expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, viewing it as an extension of SUN Insurance’s long-lasting relationship with PSH. He noted that this partnership will be advantageous not only to the shareholders of the insurance firm but also to the Fijian community, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing essential healthcare infrastructure in Fiji.
Currently, PSH occupies Sun Centre 1, which includes its headquarters and hospital services. The agreement supports SUN Insurance’s strategy of diversifying its revenue streams through property development, helping to bolster its economic footprint in Fiji. Lala highlighted the importance of such diversification in ensuring sustainable growth, especially in a competitive economic landscape.
The new Sun Centre 2 is set to introduce advanced facilities, including a pharmaceutical drug plant and an organ transplant facility, fostering the development of medical tourism in Nadi—previously known solely as a tourism hub. PSH Hospitals founder, Parvish Kumar, expressed excitement over this milestone development, which represents a culmination of lengthy negotiations with SUN Insurance.
Kumar envisions the transformation of Nadi into a recognized medical capital of Fiji, alongside its established reputation as a tourist destination. This vision speaks to a broader trend of blending health services with tourism, seeking to attract both local and international patients who may wish to receive high-quality medical care in a beautiful location.
Overall, this initiative not only represents a pivotal step for the involved companies but also holds promise for the future of healthcare in Fiji, providing enhanced services that can positively impact the local economy and community well-being. With ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure, Fiji looks forward to establishing itself as a prominent center for health tourism, contributing to both the growth of its economy and the health of its residents.
