After a thrilling 50-19 win against Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup, Fiji’s captain Tevita Ikanivere and coach Mick Byrne reflected on the team’s performance and key moments from the match.

Ikanivere, recognized as Man of the Match, emphasized how mid-game discussions were pivotal in shifting the momentum in Fiji’s favor.

“We talked about our discipline. We allowed Tonga to come back into the game towards the end of the first half. With a strong team like Tonga, any space you give them will be exploited. Our main focus was to maintain discipline and control, which we successfully achieved in the second half,” Ikanivere stated.

Coach Mick Byrne highlighted the development and learning experiences within the squad, especially for players in their third year of professional rugby.

“There is substantial growth in this team. Many players are in their third year of professional rugby and learning more about themselves. Today’s match was another opportunity for them to realize the importance of staying focused and committed,” Byrne explained.
