The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has undertaken a significant modernization of its server infrastructure, completed as part of an effort to improve its election management capabilities. This upgrade includes the installation of a new Nutanix Cluster and enhanced data protection through Veeam. These improvements aim to address longstanding issues such as limited storage capacity, outdated hardware, and poor system performance that previously hindered the FEO’s operations.

Ana Mataiciwa, the Supervisor of Elections, emphasized that this upgrade demonstrates the FEO’s ongoing commitment to operational efficiency and the delivery of reliable election services. With the new infrastructure, the office is better equipped to handle increasing demands in upcoming elections and improved overall workloads.

The enhancements have not only boosted the FEO’s disaster recovery capabilities, but they have also reinforced compliance and auditing functions. Mataiciwa noted that the transition to a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) environment will significantly enhance system resilience, contributing to long-term operational continuity and setting a solid foundation for more secure and scalable election operations.

This initiative aligns with previous efforts highlighted in earlier articles that also focus on improving trust and efficiency in the electoral process. Following issues tied to human error during the 2022 General Election, the FEO has been proactive in addressing concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process, demonstrating a commitment to restoring public confidence.

As Fiji gears up for future elections, this investment in technology is a promising step towards creating a more robust and reliable electoral framework. It reflects a hopeful outlook for both the FEO and the citizens of Fiji, ensuring that the office is well-prepared to embrace the challenges and responsibilities of upcoming elections.
