Fiji’s cruiserweight champion Alivereti Kauyaca is preparing for a crucial fight against Paulo Ratumaikoro at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on February 22. A victory in this bout is essential for Kauyaca as he seeks to secure key overseas opportunities.

Kauyaca emphasized the importance of this fight, stating, “I need this win because I’m in a build-up phase.” He explained that achieving two or three victories is necessary for him to challenge for other regional titles, similar to a past bout with John Parker. Kauyaca advocates for a proactive approach among boxers at the start of the year to gain experience and improve their records as they advance in age.

He pointed out that many Fijian boxers often cite a lack of resources as a barrier to success. However, he notes that other Fijian fighters have achieved top 15 world rankings despite similar challenges. Kauyaca believes that consistency and dedication are key for local boxers to rise through the ranks.

“Hard work and divine intervention can lead to success if we make the most of our resources,” he said. He acknowledged that overseas competitors tend to have better access to resources and strict training regimens, enabling consistent performance.

Kauyaca also highlighted the importance of discipline among Fijian boxers, suggesting that they should avoid post-fight celebrations that undermine their training efforts. He plans to commence training as soon as he returns to Nadi following the launch of Bluewater promotions, expressing confidence in the potential to develop homegrown champions in Fiji.

In summary, Kauyaca’s upcoming fight is pivotal not just for his career, but also serves as a call to action for local boxers to maintain discipline and commitment, suggesting a brighter future for Fijian boxing on the international stage. His determination and strategic mindset could inspire a new wave of talent in the sport.
