During a welcome dinner at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade Manoa Kamikamica outlined plans to promote the nation’s wild coffee and establish a quality-driven sector focused on discipline and excellence. He emphasized the unique growing conditions found in regions like Ra Province, which possesses fertile microclimates and volcanic soil ideal for high-quality coffee production.

Noteworthy attendees included coffee innovator Sasa Sestic, founder of ONA Coffee in Australia, and Yannis Apostolopoulos, CEO of the Specialty Coffee Association. Their presence underscored the international interest in Fiji’s coffee potential, as the delegation plans to visit local farms and engage with regional growers to assess the necessary infrastructural improvements for the coffee industry.

Kamikamica highlighted the need for increased coffee output to meet international specialty standards. He also stressed the importance of trust among farmers, investors, and consumers, asserting that accountability and collaboration are vital to the initiative’s success.

This coffee venture is part of a broader economic strategy that aims to diversify Fiji’s exports and generate rural employment opportunities.
