Fijian Football Icon Chandra Segran Joins Legends Club

Chandra Segran, a notable figure in Fijian football, has been honored with induction into the Fiji Football Association Legends Club, marking him as the 84th inductee. This prestigious recognition celebrates his substantial contributions to the sport, both locally and internationally.

Segran’s journey in football began in Rakiraki Nanuku, and throughout his career, he has taken on various roles, including referee, instructor, and administrator, earning respect across the sporting community. In a statement to Fiji Football Association Media, he shared his appreciation for the acknowledgment: “I am honoured to be inducted into the Fiji FA Legends and I thank Fiji FA for recognising our invaluable contributions to football development in Fiji, both on and off the field.”

The Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel commended Segran’s remarkable achievements, noting that his diligent efforts have elevated Fijian football to a global level. “Congratulations to Segran on this well-deserved honour,” Patel stated, acknowledging that Segran’s leadership and passion have significantly influenced the sport in Fiji, inspiring future generations.

Segran’s career as a referee took flight in 1980, culminating in his role as a FIFA Assistant Referee from 1992 to 1998, where he officiated in prestigious international matches. His commitment to developing referees prompted his appointment as a FIFA Instructor in 1997, allowing him to share his knowledge across the Pacific. He became the Referees Development Officer for Fiji FA in 2000, where he worked to modernize refereeing practices.

Additionally, he played a vital role in youth development while managing the Fiji FA Ba Academy from 2001 to 2012, nurturing young talent at the grassroots level. Although Segran migrated to Melbourne, Australia, in 2012, his influence on Fijian football remains profound.
