Weather Update

Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Department, your go-to source for all things weather-related and the occasional joke to brighten your day. It’s 5:30 AM on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and we have a bit of a flurry happening in the skies above Fiji.

Currently, a gentle breeze is blowing from the south to southeast, trying its best to hold down the fort while a sluggish trough of low pressure meanders over the southern parts of the group. It seems the clouds and showers are having a bit of a party over there, spilling a few drinks into the southern and eastern parts of our beautiful islands. But don’t worry, if you thought that the fun was over, another low-pressure trough is creeping in from the north, planning to crash the party come Monday.

So, what can you expect today?

Prepare for some cloudy moments, accompanied by scattered showers and possibly a sprinkle of isolated thunderstorms on the Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti islands – a real choose-your-own-adventure kind of day! Rain mainly on your terms, with brief showers throughout the Sigatoka-Coral Coast-Korolevu, greater Suva area, and more.

Now, if you were hoping for some sunny beach vibes today, those will be mostly found away from the thunderstorms. But not to fear! The sun will put on an appearance elsewhere, although it might slip on a light shower cloak in the afternoon or evening to keep things interesting. And don’t be shocked if you get caught in those surprise downpours over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu – they tend to pop up like uninvited guests.

Expect moderate south to southeast winds playing a gentle tune, alongside moderate seas that promise not to be too raucous.

Moving on to the outlook for Monday – keep your umbrella handy! We’re looking at a mix of occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms especially in the northern parts of Bua, Macuata, and Cakaudrove, with a gradual upgrade in the shower department throughout the day. Winds will do a little shift – from the east-southeast to a gentle east-northeast.

Now, let’s check out the nitty-gritty breakdown for today and what’s coming up:
