Weather Update
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 AM on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Good news, folks! The previously issued heavy rain alert for our friends in the Northern Division, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti Groups has been officially canceled! The weather gods have decided to turn down the waterworks for now. And just like that, our flash flood alert has also packed its bags and left the building!
Here’s the scoop: A sluggish trough of low pressure is hanging out just north of Fiji, while a moist southeast wind is blowing in, probably trying to spice things up.
Forecast until midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Expect some occasional showers, and yes, we might just have a thunderstorm or two crashing the party, particularly over the Eastern and Interior parts of Vanua Levu (that’s Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, Taveuni, and neighbors) and parts of Viti Levu, focusing on the east and interior regions, from Serua-Namosi all the way to Tailevu-Ra.
Elsewhere, it’s mostly partly cloudy with some afternoon or evening showers threatening to drop by uninvited along with their thunderstorm buddies. Don’t let those intense downpours catch you off guard; they might just create a mini swimming pool where you least expect it!
Moderate southeast winds are on duty, but look out for gusty friends where the rain and thunderstorms are extra enthusiastic. The seas are behaving moderately as well, not too rough but you might want to keep an eye on that surfboard!
