So grab your raincoat and rubber boots, folks, because a Heavy Rain Alert is officially on for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their smaller island neighbors, as well as the central and northern Lau group. If you’re interested in more details, click over to our website (which may or may not be the most exciting thing you’ll do today) at https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/.

What’s cooking in the skies? Well, there’s a slow-moving trough of low pressure hovering over the southern and eastern parts of our beautiful islands, drizzling clouds and showers everywhere. Another cupboard, um… we mean trough, filled with more clouds, showers, and rain is eyeing us from the northeast and is gradually making its way southward. It’s expected to settle in just after lunchtime today, and stick around to make Friday feel extra cozy.

Here’s the scoop on the weather for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow:
Expect occasional showers with a sprinkle of thunderstorms and the potential for heavy rainfall over Lomaiviti and Lau. Meanwhile, Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nasinu, Yasawa, Mamanuca group, Northern Bua, and Macuata can expect cloudy spells and some more showers with isolated thunderbooms and perhaps dramatic heavy showers.

If you were planning an outdoor adventure on Vanua Levu, Taveuni, or the nearby islands, you might want to rethink that. Frequent showers are on the horizon, and we’ve got reports of thunderstorms that could lead to flash flooding, especially in those adorable low-lying areas. The winds will be moderately west to southwest, getting fresh from time to time, and the seas will be moderate but might feel rough during squalls.

Now, looking ahead to Friday:
Bring on the occasional rain, with heavy showers and a few thunderclaps expected just about everywhere. Keep an eye on local heavy falls that could cause a splash (or a flood) in those prone spots. Winds will play a wild card again, swinging from northwest to southeast, and yes—moderate seas will still be around.

For specific regions:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect clouds, rest assured that showers and the occasional thunderstorm are expected to keep you company. Min: 24, Max: 33. Outlook for Friday: More rain and thunderclaps, Min: 24, Max: 30.

– For Labasa: If you enjoy cloud-watching with a side of showers and thunderstorms, today’s your day. Get ready for rain to ramp up later. Min: 24, Max: 33. Friday’s forecast? More of the same.

– Taveuni: You may want to keep an eye on the skies for rain, which is going to get frequent in the coming hours. Today’s Max: 32.

– For Rotuma: Hold on to your umbrellas! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT IS IN EFFECT. Expect periods of rain, heavy at times, with those pesky thunderstorms hanging around too. Today’s Max: 31.

So there you have it—put on your best rain gear, prepare for some thunderous applause from the skies, and maybe have that cozy cup of tea ready while we wait out this weather shuffle!
