The Ministry for Rural and Maritime Development in Fiji is encouraging citizens to apply early for government assistance following the announcement of the 2025-2026 national budget. Minister Sakiasi Ditoka stated that early applications are crucial for ensuring a smooth and prompt processing of requests. He specifically urged people living in rural areas to take action before the financial year progresses too far.
Minister Ditoka emphasized that waiting until the middle or end of the financial year can hinder the application process, as the ministry will then be in the implementation phase and may have limited capacity to handle new submissions. The designated application period runs from August to October, and forms are available at provincial councils or through the ministry’s website.
This initiative mirrors previous government efforts to provide financial support, such as the Back-to-School Support program aimed at assisting low-income families with educational expenses. Under this program, a substantial budget of $40 million has been allocated for the upcoming year, specifically targeting families earning $50,000 or less annually. This ongoing commitment highlights the government’s determination to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their financial situation, have access to necessary resources.
