The Fiji National University’s Namaka Campus has launched a week-long Hospitality Art Fair, providing an engaging platform for students to showcase their talents and potentially turn their passions into professional careers. The event is themed “Interactive Fair of Enchanting Skills and Exquisite Flavors” and aims to connect students with industry professionals and potential employers, facilitating valuable networking opportunities.

Sheileshni Nair, FNU’s Head of Training for Tourism & Hospitality, noted that the fair is designed to offer students real-world exposure through various competitions judged by industry experts, who will provide critical feedback to enhance their growth. The fair commenced with a Hair and Beauty Competition, where students expressed their creativity through fantasy-inspired designs.

Among the participants is 18-year-old Dorothy Mar, who shared her journey of discovering her passion for beauty after facing personal challenges, including dropping out of high school. She expressed her aspiration to eventually own her own beauty business, emphasizing the growing demand for makeup artists at events. Dorothy’s story serves as a source of inspiration for young people, encouraging them to pursue their hidden talents, regardless of setbacks.

This event not only highlights the importance of student creativity but also echoes the spirit seen in previous initiatives aimed at empowering the youth in Fiji. For example, similar fairs and events, like the recent FMF Nadi Bula Festival, have provided platforms for youth expression, addressing various social issues while promoting career opportunities.

The Hospitality Art Fair underscores the commitment of FNU to nurture talent and provide youth with meaningful experiences that can shape their futures positively. Such initiatives foster a hopeful narrative that encourages students to explore their potential and aspire to achieve their dreams in the hospitality and beauty industries.
