Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has announced the sale of two pieces of freehold land located in Lautoka, which includes a parcel currently occupied by the Lautoka Bowling Club. The total area of the land being offered is approximately 8,000 square meters (1.98 acres).
The property features a single-story structure that houses facilities for the Lautoka Bowling Club, including a restaurant, open dining areas, and toilet facilities for both genders. Additional improvements on the site consist of a gravel-surfaced driveway and parking space, bowling greens, concrete kerbs, rest sheds, water tanks, and partial fencing around the bowling area.
FSC’s intent to sell this land aligns with its strategy of identifying and disposing of non-core assets as part of broader efforts to streamline operations and focus on its primary sugar production business. This initiative follows the organization’s previously outlined strategies in its annual report, aiming to enhance profitability and operational efficiency, including a move towards selling non-essential land holdings and re-evaluating its real estate assets.
The decision to sell property assets underscores a significant shift as FSC continues to adapt to market demands and optimize its resource management. It presents a unique opportunity for prospective buyers to acquire valuable land in a burgeoning commercial area while facilitating potential redevelopment options.
As the Fiji Sugar Corporation continues to navigate challenges in the sugar industry, including competition and production variability, such sales could help reshape its operational framework and contribute to long-term sustainability and growth.
