Two days have passed since a significant meeting held by the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) to address allegations concerning its chief executive, Gilbert Vakalalabure, yet there has been no official communication released to the public. The private discussions were anticipated to shed light on the Council’s stance regarding the serious claims, but as of this morning, the outcome remains undisclosed.
FSC chairman Peniasi Sokia Evo, when approached for comments around 10 AM today, indicated that he was engaged in another meeting and requested a follow-up later. Attempts to reach him again at approximately 11:30 AM were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone went unanswered. Further complicating matters, emails sent to Mr. Evo on both February 13 and February 18 have not received a reply.
The lack of communication has sparked concerns regarding the transparency of the Council and its approach to the allegations, particularly given the significant public interest in the leadership of such a vital sporting organization in Fiji. Currently, it is uncertain whether the meeting concluded with any definitive decisions or if additional internal processes are still in progress.
As the Fiji Sports Council continues to withhold an official statement, stakeholders and the public are left waiting for clarity on the future of this key sporting figure and the implications for the organization as a whole.
