The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is gearing up for a challenging round at the Vancouver 7s this weekend, where they aim to fend off competitors and maintain their lead in the HSBC SVNS standings. Currently, Fiji tops the leaderboard with 70 points, closely followed by South Africa at 66 points and New Zealand at 62 points.

Coached by Osea Kolinisau, Fiji is placed in Pool B alongside teams from France, Australia, and Argentina, who occupy the fourth to sixth positions in the standings. Kolinisau acknowledges that as the series approaches its end, maintaining their top position will be a difficult task, especially with all teams looking to secure a tournament win.

“This week is crucial for everyone, as it’s likely the last opportunity to clinch a tournament in this leg of the series, and all teams will give it their all, especially with the points so closely contested,” Kolinisau explained.

Despite leading the table, Kolinisau is aware of the challenges that come with this status, admitting, “It’s not easy being number one; there’s a lot of things that can go wrong.” He emphasized the importance of consistency and pushing players to meet their true potential, stating, “Your potential can’t come out if you’re not pushed to your limit.”

As Fiji prepares for the Vancouver 7s, the spirit of competition and the quest for excellence remain at the forefront of their strategy. With determination and focus, the team aims to not only secure their position but also to inspire confidence among their players as they navigate through this pivotal stage of the tournament.
