Minister for Women Sashi Kiran has emphasized the need for immediate reforms to tackle the increasing social challenges impacting vulnerable communities throughout Fiji. During the opening of a two-day Mid-Term Review Workshop, she raised alarms about the escalating issues of youth drug use, mental health concerns, elder neglect, and child protection.
Kiran stated that the Ministry must adapt its policies and services to effectively address these changing dynamics. She underlined the importance of collaboration with government agencies, faith-based organizations, community groups, and the private sector to develop comprehensive solutions.
Recognizing the emotional toll on frontline social workers, she encouraged staff to utilize the counseling and support services available to them. This workshop convenes directors and personnel from across the nation to evaluate existing progress, pinpoint challenges, and devise practical enhancements in service delivery.
Kiran firmly reiterated the necessity of ongoing efforts to ensure that no child, woman, older person, or vulnerable individual is overlooked. The call for reform reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding the wellbeing of all demographics within society, promoting a more inclusive and supportive environment for Fiji’s most at-risk populations.
