The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is currently in the process of reviewing legal advice in response to serious allegations made by the Malolo Rugby Union regarding discrepancies in gate takings from the upcoming 2025 Skipper Cup competition. During a press conference at Rugby House, acting CEO Koli Sewabu acknowledged the claims and stressed the importance of waiting for legal clearance before issuing any public statements.
Sewabu expressed a desire to resolve the ongoing issues with Malolo before the year concludes, aiming for a fresh start in 2026. Previously, FRU reached out to Malolo for a discussion following the Skipper Cup finals due to concerns that had been raised. However, a meeting scheduled in Nadi was abruptly canceled just ten minutes prior to its start.
Furthermore, an attempt to address the situation during FRU’s General Assembly on December 6 was met with challenges as Malolo’s President exited the meeting before it could conclude. This prompted Malolo to take to social media to air their grievances, although the post has since been removed from their Facebook page.
Sewabu emphasized that the union is committed to addressing the allegations and is hopeful that a resolution can foster collaboration and improvement for all parties involved in the sport.
