Fiji Rugby Union Joins the Global Game Again!

The Fiji Rugby Union has had its membership restored in the World Rugby Council. This decision followed a meeting of the World Rugby Executive Board in late July, during which they assessed a report from the Fiji Oversight Committee.

The report highlighted that the FRU successfully conducted a Special General Meeting, resulting in unanimous approval of a new constitution and governance framework. This move is regarded as a significant advancement towards ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective leadership within Fiji Rugby.

FRU Chairman Peter Mazey expressed gratitude for the support received from World Rugby and acknowledged the commitment of their stakeholders. He stated that the adoption of the new constitution and governance structure reflects their commitment to progressing Fiji Rugby. Mazey emphasized that this reinstatement represents a triumph not only for the Union but also for all players, coaches, and fans who have remained supportive during this time.

Furthermore, Mazey indicated that this reinstatement would enable Fiji Rugby to enhance its relationships within the global rugby community and further its mission to develop the sport in Fiji. As part of this development, the FRU will now appoint a representative to the World Rugby Council, who will undergo vetting according to the World Rugby Integrity Code before assuming their role.

In addition, World Rugby acknowledged the efforts of Fiji Oversight Committee members Dr. Robin Mitchell and Cathy Wong for their contributions in facilitating this successful outcome. The FRU is dedicated to maintaining the values and standards established by World Rugby.
