The Fiji Police Force is advising vehicle owners to avoid leaving their cars unattended with keys in the ignition. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized this message after two incidents where suspects stole vehicles by exploiting this situation.
Driu warned that opportunistic criminals will take advantage of these lapses in security and urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant in securing their cars at all times. He highlighted that these opportunists show no consideration for anyone involved, including families who may be in the vehicle.
Additionally, Driu mentioned that once a theft report is filed, checkpoints will be established to prevent the stolen vehicle from being used in the commission of further crimes.
