The Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, ACP Mesake Waqa, has emphasized the importance of adhering to established procedures in police investigations to ensure justice is served. Speaking at the Investigators Empowerment Workshop at the Fiji Police Academy, he warned that taking shortcuts could compromise the integrity of investigations.
During the workshop, ACP Waqa highlighted the primary goal of enhancing the investigative skills of officers and expanding their knowledge base. He reminded the attendees that while shortcuts may seem appealing under pressure, they can severely undermine the legal processes and the credibility of cases.
In his address, the Chief of Crime Investigation urged officers to focus on rebuilding and strengthening public trust. He stressed the necessity for closer engagement with communities and the importance of improving service delivery, particularly in terms of responding swiftly to calls and providing timely updates to victims and complainants.
Moreover, ACP Waqa called on officers to maintain professionalism in their duties to minimize complaints against the police. He encouraged them to address issues fairly and comprehensively, fostering a more positive relationship with the public and enhancing the overall effectiveness of law enforcement in Fiji.
