The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that seven officers are currently under investigation in relation to a drug-related case, clarifying an earlier report that inaccurately stated there were eight officers involved. Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu announced that the Criminal Investigations Department uncovered the officers’ connections through an examination of Viber exchanges, which allegedly link them to an individual involved in the drug trade.
Commissioner Tudravu also noted that investigators are engaging with the person who provided the screenshots as part of the ongoing inquiry, with plans for a formal statement to be obtained. To bolster their investigation, the Fiji Police are collaborating with the Australian Federal Police and New Zealand Police, aiming to expedite the process and keep the public informed with regular updates.
The Fiji Police Force has expressed regret for the earlier miscommunication regarding the number of officers implicated and remains committed to addressing the situation thoroughly as investigations continue.
