A heavy rain warning is currently in effect across the entire Fiji Group, prompting authorities to advise the public to remain vigilant as unstable weather conditions continue. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood warning for all of Viti Levu, while a flash flood alert applies to Vanua Levu.

Residents are being warned of potential flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to and downstream of several rivers, including the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, the Yaqara River, Tavua River, and the Ba River flood plains. Additionally, areas near the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva rivers in Nadroga are under a flood alert, further stressing the need for caution.

Weather officials attribute the ongoing storms to an active trough of low pressure situated over the Fiji Group, which is expected to bring continued cloudiness, showers, and rain until Wednesday. Most regions should anticipate periods of rain, with heavy downpours likely in some areas accompanied by thunderstorms.

While rain is predicted to gradually subside later today, localized heavy falls may still lead to flooding in susceptible regions. The public is strongly urged to adhere to official weather warnings and advisories, steer clear of flooded roads and river crossings, and take all necessary precautions as the weather begins to improve.

This situation highlights the importance of staying informed and prepared during extreme weather events, as the community rallies to prioritize safety in the face of challenges posed by nature.
