The Vodafone Fijiana and Fiji Defence Women’s team, who are part of the Republic of Fiji Navy, were recently celebrated at their headquarters in Walu Bay following their rugby competitions in the United Kingdom. Key players such as Captain Alfreda Fisher, siblings Keleni and Karalaini Naisewa, and Adi Salaseini Railumu participated in the Fijiana 15s team at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England. Additionally, Fijiana 7s representative Lavena Cavuru and former national sevens player Ivamere Nabura joined the team representing Fiji at the 2025 International Defence Rugby competition.

Fiji Navy Commander Timoci Natuva commended the players for their busy year and acknowledged their achievements in sports. He highlighted the significance of their efforts as a foundation for future successes. Natuva emphasized that the importance lies not in trophies or wins, but in the journey and learning process. He appreciated the team’s ability to bounce back and perform admirably despite initial setbacks.

Natuva also recognized the Navy’s rugby team, who recently played in the final of the Escott Shield but fell short against Police. His remarks praised their constant dedication and encouraged reflection on growth and learning from the losses.

This celebration marks a significant moment for Fiji’s women in sports, especially rugby, as it acknowledges not only their participation but also their perseverance and ability to thrive in competitive environments. The involvement of the Navy women in notable rugby events lends inspiration and empowerment to female athletes across the region, emphasizing the potential for growth and success in women’s sports. With strong support systems and a collective commitment to both individual and team improvement, Fiji continues to make strides in elevating women’s rugby on the global stage.
