The Fiji Kulas women’s football team is gearing up for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, with standout player Trina Davis emphasizing that she feels a strong sense of chemistry with her teammates. Davis, who has represented Fiji previously in the 2023 South Pacific Games, highlighted her familiarity with many players in the squad, stating that they can “read each other and play off each other without speaking.” This synergy stems from their past experiences on the field together, which is crucial as they strive for success.

Davis also expressed enthusiasm for the younger players who have recently joined the team. Many of these athletes have gained crucial experience through their participation in U-16 and U-19 teams, contributing to their readiness to compete at a higher level. Coach Angeline Chua has been instrumental in preparing the squad, focusing on defining each player’s roles and fostering teamwork to enhance their performance at the tournament.

As they approach the Nations Cup, the Kulas are motivated by their previous run to the finals in 2022, where they narrowly lost to Papua New Guinea. This year, their goal is to take home the championship trophy, and they are keen to secure victory on home soil.

The Fiji Kulas’ first match is scheduled against the Solomon Islands on Saturday at 7 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Davis has extended an invitation to the local community, urging them to support the team as they embark on this journey.

This tournament is not only an opportunity for competition but also a chance to inspire future generations of female footballers in Fiji, reinforcing the growth of women’s sports in the region. The increasing interest in women’s football reflects a hopeful future, as the Kulas aim to make history and redefine their place in international football.
