Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi

Issued at 10:45am on Thursday, February 12, 2026

Attention, residents of Fiji! Grab your umbrellas and floaties because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in effect for the entire Fiji group! You might think Mother Nature is feeling a bit moody, and she might be right, considering a trough of low pressure is gracing us with its presence, bringing a delightful mixture of clouds, showers, and the occasional thunderstorm, all the way through Saturday.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow:
Expect some good old-fashioned rain—heavy at times—along with isolated thunderstorms, especially if you live in the Northern Division, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Yasawa, and Mamanuca. The northeastern parts of Viti Levu (like Tavua, Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and Tailevu North) might see even more rain! Meanwhile, the other folks in Fiji get to enjoy some fine weather… for now. But don’t get too comfy; rain and thunderstorms are sneaking in later today.

And just a friendly reminder, persistent heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so don’t let your sandals be swept away!

Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds that might get a bit gusty during those dramatic moments of thunder and rain. For those of you brave enough to venture out to sea, moderate to rough seas are on the agenda.

Outlook for Saturday:
Brief showers are anticipated mainly over the northern parts of Viti Levu and the surrounding islands. While you might catch some sun in the morning, make sure to have your raincoat ready, especially in the afternoons as we could see some hefty showers and thunderstorms making a comeback.

Now onto some local area updates:

Navua/Suva/Nausori:
Occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms are the main acts, with heavy falls expected in Nausori. Stay dry, or at least as dry as you can manage!
