As Fiji welcomes 2025, families nationwide are taking the opportunity to reflect on the past year while looking forward to new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared her family’s delightful New Year celebration, symbolizing a fresh start despite the hurdles faced in 2024.
Ms. Ranamila expressed heartfelt gratitude for their family’s resilience, noting the joy of siblings reuniting from various parts of the country to celebrate together. “We’re thrilled about the new year and are focusing on building a family home for our parents,” Mr. Ranamila added. He emphasized that the challenges of 2024 taught them important lessons, motivating them to cherish their time together.
To enjoy a memorable day, the family chose the Suva Picnic spot, a break from their usual routines, to strengthen their familial bonds. A photograph shared shows a cheerful gathering, including Javed, Nazra, Shana, grandmother Armani, and little Zaeem among others, enjoying a traditional lovo lunch.
In another part of Fiji, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, started her New Year by spending time at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool with her children. “It’s a peaceful, safe place where we can enjoy each other’s company,” she said, highlighting the significance of quality moments with her kids during the school holidays to reinforce their relationships.
Ravikash Chand, the manager of the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, noted that it is the only public pool in Labasa, which provides various activities in a safe environment for families. He encouraged parents to utilize these facilities to teach water safety skills to their children.
As the New Year unfolds, it is heartwarming to see families across Fiji prioritizing togetherness and growth. The focus on creating lasting memories and strengthening relationships offers a hopeful outlook for the year ahead. Such gatherings are a testament to the resilience and unity of Fijian families, reminding us all of the importance of connection and support within our communities.
