Onisimo Rakanace and Seini Toga, a couple from Nakorovou in Rewa, have seized the opportunity to invest in their family’s future by purchasing shares in Shreedhar Motors Limited during its current initial public offering (IPO), which is set to close next month. Ms. Toga expressed that their primary motivation for investing is to secure a stable financial future for their children.

The couple’s journey into the stock market began with an awareness session organized by the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) in their village, which provided them with valuable insights into investment opportunities. “This is our first investment. For us, it’s just something that will help our children in the future. We are just investing for us to be financially stable for our children in the future,” Ms. Toga shared in an interview.

Mr. Rakanace also emphasized the significance of this investment as a new beginning for them. He outlined their plans to broaden their investment portfolio and instill financial literacy in their children, encouraging them to engage in investing as well.

Ms. Toga noted a common hesitation among people in their iTaukei community regarding investments, stating, “For us, we hold ourselves back in trying to venture out into something new financially. For us to invest in something financially is like, we take a long pause and we wait and look. If it works, then we take a step.” She further reiterated the importance of understanding that investing carries the potential for returns, saying, “There is always a return. Maybe it will work; it will come in the long run, there will always be a return. So that’s the thing, we have to keep in mind – the return will come back.”

This inspiring story highlights the growing interest in financial literacy and investment opportunities among individuals in Fiji. As more people engage in investing, there is hope for creating a culture of financial awareness that can lead to improved economic stability for families and communities in the future.
