Fiji Braces for Cyclone Rae: Are You Prepared?

Fiji Braces for Cyclone Rae: Police on Standby as Residents Urged to Prepare

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Livai Driu has announced that police divisions across Fiji are activating their standby teams in anticipation of the impending Tropical Cyclone Rae. With the cyclone approaching Fiji’s waters, ACP Driu has been receiving updates from officers stationed on Vanuabalavu concerning efforts to support local communities.

In preparation for the cyclone’s arrival, police personnel are assisting families in evacuating to designated shelters. ACP Driu strongly urged residents—especially those in coastal and low-lying areas—to take immediate safety precautions. He stated, “We advise the public to prioritize their safety and follow all official advisories. Children should stay indoors, as conditions are perilous for outdoor activities. We want everyone to remain safe to prevent accidents.”

Driu also cautioned drivers about potential visibility issues related to the storm and instructed mariners to adhere to safety advisories regarding maritime travel.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that Tropical Cyclone Rae could intensify, highlighting the need for residents to prepare comprehensively. Past warnings have emphasized the dangers of severe weather, urging communities to avoid flood-prone areas and stock up on emergency supplies.

There is a noted spirit of community solidarity, essential for overcoming such challenges. Historical observations show that collective preparedness effectively reduces the impacts of severe weather incidents. ACP Driu’s proactive approach highlights the critical nature of vigilance and community participation during this crucial time.

For any assistance, the public is encouraged to contact the Police Command and Coordination Centre at 9905 296. With timely action, awareness, and cooperation among residents and local authorities, there is optimism that the community will successfully navigate through this storm.
