Fiji Amateur Boxing head coach, Cam Todd, expressed pride in his team’s performance at the 2025 World Boxing Championship in Liverpool, England. The event saw six Fijian boxers—Aminiasi Saratibau, Sakiusa Narara, Josaia Veiqaravi, Semi Koroi, captain Jone Davule, and Jasmine Daunakamakama—compete against top-tier athletes from over 90 countries.

Among the standouts, Aminiasi Saratibau delivered an impressive performance by defeating New Zealand’s champion Kagho Taj Eseoghene in the men’s 80kg preliminaries. Despite the tough competition, the Fijian team demonstrated noteworthy skills and fighting spirit, making the nation proud.

Significant support was felt from the Fijian community in the UK and back home, which was greatly appreciated by the coach and athletes. Todd emphasized the importance of international exposure, which provides critical learning experiences for the boxers. He stated that despite the challenges, the competition confirmed that Fiji’s boxers are progressing well on their path to international recognition.

Reflecting the commitment to developing amateur boxing in Fiji, Todd announced plans to take the Junior Youth development team to New Zealand next month for additional competitions. The focus remains on providing opportunities for emerging boxers to gain valuable experience and elevate their skills.

This competition in Liverpool not only marked an essential milestone for Fiji’s boxing scene but also underscored growth trends, such as increased female participation and enhanced grassroots engagement. These developments herald a promising future for the sport, with efforts to foster a new generation of talented boxers ready to make their mark on the international stage.

The Fijian delegation’s effort in Liverpool is a testament to the strategic progress being made under Todd’s leadership, as Fiji looks ahead to upcoming events like the Commonwealth Games. Their journey illustrates growing prowess and dedication within the Fijian boxing community and signals a bright future for the sport.
