Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is visiting Australia this week for important discussions aimed at enhancing security cooperation between the two nations. The focus of these talks will extend to improving border and port capabilities, which are crucial for regional unity in the Blue Pacific.
This visit highlights the strengthening of the Vuvale Partnership, a collaborative framework fostering deeper ties between Fiji and Australia. Prime Minister Rabuka is scheduled to have meetings that include a courtesy call on Governor General Sam Mostyn, and engagement with key Australian institutions that reflect Fiji’s longstanding relationship with Canberra.
Moreover, the discussions will prioritize regional stability and collective action to address shared Pacific challenges. As part of his itinerary, Rabuka will also interact with Fijians residing in Canberra and Brisbane to acknowledge their contributions to both Fiji and Australia.
Accompanying the Prime Minister are senior Cabinet Ministers and military leaders, including those responsible for Home Affairs, Immigration, and Policing, along with the Deputy Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). In his absence, Viliame Gavoka, the Minister for Tourism and Deputy Prime Minister, will serve as acting Prime Minister.
Rabuka’s visit underscores Fiji’s commitment to engaging robustly with its partners in the Pacific, aiming for strengthened cooperation that benefits the entire region. This engagement is particularly timely as countries work together to navigate complex security and humanitarian issues.
