The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is excitedly preparing for the upcoming Hong Kong 7s and the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, with promising talents vying for spots on the Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s team. Among them are Fullback Isikeli Basiyalo and Flyhalf Aisea Nawai from the Drua development squad, along with Apete Narogo, who impressed as the best player of the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s while playing for Semi Radradra’s Ubuntu team.
Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has noted that these players bring a significant mix of power and speed to the field, but he emphasizes that their previous performances alone won’t guarantee them a place in the squad. Kolinisau explained, “I’ve been keeping in contact with Glen Jackson about getting some boys to gain game time. It’s not a guarantee, but if they fit in well and prove themselves, I won’t hesitate to select them.”
With only three weeks until the Hong Kong 7s, the competitive nature of the selections means there is ample time for the coaching staff to assess the new entrants and determine their roles within the team. The collective efforts to nurture young and skilled athletes demonstrate a commitment to strengthening Fiji’s rugby heritage, elevating hopes for a successful performance in the upcoming competitions.
The eagerness of young talents like Basiyalo, Nawai, and Narogo reflects the rich pool of skill within Fijian rugby, offering a hopeful outlook for the team’s future. As they train intensively ahead of these vital tournaments, fans can remain optimistic about the bright prospects for the Fijian Drua and its players on the international stage.
