April 26, 2026 Fiji Forecast: Widespread Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms with Localized Flood Risk as Trough Lingers West

Storm clouds over Fiji beach with strong winds and dark skies.

A slow-moving trough of low pressure to the west of Fiji, together with a moist east to northeast wind flow, will keep many parts of the group unsettled through to midnight tomorrow. Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in several interior and southern districts, with isolated heavy falls most likely in the afternoon and evening that could cause localised flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Winds will stay moderate from the east to northeast and seas are expected to be moderate to rough.

Through to midnight tomorrow the greatest shower and thunderstorm activity is forecast for coastal Seru‑Namosi, Greater Suva/Nausori and Tailevu, the interiors of Serua‑Namosi, Naitasiri, Ba and Nadroga/Navosa, interior Ra/Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, the Lomaiviti group, central and southern Lau, the Moala group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere, conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated brief showers and the chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Isolated heavy falls are expected, particularly during the afternoon and evening, and these localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents in vulnerable locations should be prepared for sudden increases in runoff and reduced visibility during heavy downpours. Outdoor plans this afternoon and evening may be disrupted by showers and thunderstorms.

Marine conditions will be affected by moderate east to northeast winds and moderate to rough seas tonight; seas are expected to ease to moderate on Tuesday. Small craft operators and those planning coastal activities should take the sea state into account and monitor updates before heading out.

Locally, Navua/Suva/Nausori can expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with temperatures around 23 to 31°C, and a similar pattern and temperature range is forecast for Natadradave/Korovou. Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Sigatoka/Coral Coast will be partly cloudy with isolated brief showers and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls expected (Nadi/Lautoka/Ba 23–32°C; Sigatoka 23–31°C). Labasa and other northern centres will see partly cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms and chance of heavy falls (Labasa 21–32°C), while Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and Rotuma should expect periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms at times, with temperatures generally in the low 20s to low 30s.
