Fiji 7s Eyeing Glory: Will Their Defense Hold Up?

The Fijian 7s rugby team is keen to capitalize on their recent success at the HSBC Singapore Sevens, where they achieved a gold medal, according to Head Coach Osea Kolinisau. However, Kolinisau emphasized that there remains significant work to be done, especially in refining their defensive strategies ahead of the upcoming World Championship set for Los Angeles.

Upon returning to training following the Easter Holidays, Kolinisau noted that the players are enthusiastic about continuing their progress. “We want to ensure that we follow up on our defence in Singapore. There are aspects where we can improve, especially in our communication and one-on-one situations,” he stated.

After a rigorous strength workout at the High-Performance Unit, Kolinisau expressed confidence that the team is in a good place to prepare for the tournament. “The boys are eager; although there might be a few niggles, we’re focused on the areas that require work, and we should be ready for a good tournament,” he added.

The emphasis on communication and tactical precision is critical as the team has learned from past experiences. Kolinisau previously highlighted issues with concentration that arose in earlier tournaments, including their bronze medal performance in Cape Town, where lack of focus during critical moments hindered their success.

Reflecting on these experiences, Kolinisau’s commitment to improving the team’s defensive capabilities bodes well for their upcoming matches. Fans remain hopeful as the Fiji team gears up to showcase their skills on the international stage once again. With a focus on teamwork and resilience, the outlook appears positive for the Fiji 7s in their pursuit of further accolades.
