The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has officially declared the Coca-Cola Games 2025 a drug-free event, ensuring a safe environment for all participants. Scheduled to take place from April 24–26 at the HFC Stadium in Suva, the Games will feature student-athletes from across the nation.
In collaboration with the Fiji Police and the Ministry of Health, the Ministry is implementing thorough security measures to create a respectful and positive atmosphere. Such measures include a strong police presence for bag checks, the deployment of K9 units to detect drugs, comprehensive surveillance through drones and CCTV, and road checkpoints managed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Radrodro emphasized that anyone found with illegal substances will face serious penalties. He has called on school administrations to ensure that teachers accompany student-athletes to and from the event, fostering good behavior and responsibility among attendees. Disruptive actions, such as rocking buses or inappropriate language, will not be tolerated during transit or at the venue.
Moreover, medical officers and counselors will be present at the stadium to provide support if necessary, and educational brochures regarding drug awareness will be distributed to raise consciousness about substance abuse.
Reflections from previous events, like the Nawaka 7s tournament, highlight a growing commitment across Fiji to combat substance use in sports. The proactive approach taken for the Coca-Cola Games signifies a hopeful step towards inspiring young athletes to make healthy life choices and promoting community well-being.
These initiatives aim to not only secure the integrity of the Coca-Cola Games but also cultivate a celebration around youth and community spirit. By fostering cooperation and responsibility among all stakeholders, the Ministry is hopeful that this year’s event will be memorable for all participants for the right reasons.
