The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has reaffirmed its independence, stating there has been no interference from the Government.
In a recent statement, FICAC emphasized that neither the Government nor any political parties have interfered with its investigations or ongoing cases, and that it strictly follows due processes.
The Commission referenced a previous announcement made in March, clarifying that any interference noted was not from the current Coalition Government, but from former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Additionally, FICAC mentioned a letter of complaint filed by Sayed-Khaiyum to Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere regarding the former Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai in April 2024; however, the current status of that complaint remains unclear.
FICAC also noted significant changes within its structure over the past year, including new leadership and staff turnover, which have impacted the progress of its investigation cases.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to completing pending cases and assured that it will maintain its independence in accordance with the law.
