Checkpoints will continue to be a presence across the country as law enforcement maintains heightened vigilance during the festive season. Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is dedicated to ensuring road safety and security through ongoing checkpoint activities.
Since last month, the police have ramped up operations to foster a safer environment for all during this busy time. According to ACP Driu, these checkpoints act as a deterrent for those with ill intentions and serve to remind drivers of the critical importance of safety for themselves and their passengers.
Through these checkpoints, officers are empowered to address various infractions, including drug possession, carrying excess passengers, and driving without proper documentation. Additionally, they have successfully apprehended individuals suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
ACP Driu urged the public to remain patient as the police conduct their necessary checks on the roads, reiterating that the primary goal of these operations is the safety of all road users.
This proactive approach by the police not only aims to diminish dangerous activities on the roads but also fosters a community-wide sense of responsibility towards safe driving practices during what can be a chaotic time of year. As the festive season approaches, it is encouraging to see law enforcement taking such measures to protect the well-being of all citizens.
