Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, emphasized the need for strong and inclusive leadership within Fiji’s sports sector during the opening of the TAFISA Certified Leadership Program at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. His remarks came as 40 participants began a four-day training designed to empower sports leaders with the skills necessary to make sports more accessible to all.

“This innovative program aims to cultivate capable and inclusive leaders in the sports community,” Saukuru stated, highlighting the importance of aiding local sports administrators and coaches in running better sports programs. He noted that the initiative transcends traditional training, aiming to build vibrant and inclusive communities throughout the country.

Saukuru expressed gratitude to TAFISA for their financial support and acknowledged the contributions of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) for providing free training for all participants. He pointed out that eliminating financial barriers is essential in promoting an inclusive sports culture, which can serve as a catalyst for social unity and national pride.

Furthermore, he stressed the program’s role in encouraging youth participation in sports, fostering leadership skills that lead to healthier lifestyles. The recognition provided by the TAFISA leadership certificate will align Fiji’s sports standards with global practices, opening doors to new opportunities for international competitions.

This initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing sports development in Fiji, as seen in previous collaborations between organizations like the Fiji National Sports Commission and ONOC. Such partnerships signify a hopeful trajectory for the country’s sports culture, focusing on inclusivity and active community participation. As programs like this unfold, they contribute to fostering a supportive environment for aspiring athletes, ensuring that all individuals have the chance to thrive in sports.
