The Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, has announced the arrival of four new elevators for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Fiji. This development comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to upgrade healthcare infrastructure amid recent criticisms regarding the reliability of existing elevators.

In a social media update, Ravunawa expressed appreciation for the community’s patience during this process, stating, “The Ministry of Health & Medical Services – Fiji is happy to inform that we’ve received not one but four new elevators for CWM Hospital.” He noted that installation would begin soon with the help of a contracted vendor, significantly enhancing hospital services.

This announcement follows previous reports detailing significant issues with malfunctioning lifts at CWM, which have frustrated patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Notably, a patient lift that had been in service for over 15 years had become particularly problematic, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure updates.

By investing in these new elevators, the Ministry not only resolves immediate logistical concerns but also demonstrates a commitment to improving patient care and operational efficiency. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services, ensuring that facilities are better equipped to cater to community needs.

As the elevators are set to be installed, optimism surrounds their potential to create a smoother healthcare experience for both patients and medical staff at CWM Hospital, addressing a critical gap in the healthcare system. This development is a positive step toward a more functional and supportive environment for all who rely on the hospital’s services.
