A fire broke out early this morning on Grantham Road in Raiwaqa, causing significant damage to a bus and a truck housed in a shared garage utilized by Interlink and Raiwaqa Buses. Interlink Shipping General Manager Adrial Prasad stated that the fire originated from Rups Big Bear, spreading to the garage around 3 a.m., after being reported around 1 a.m. No inquiries about the incident have been made as of yet.
Firefighters and police are currently on the scene conducting investigations, while the National Fire Authority is expected to release an official statement soon. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing fire safety concerns in the region.
Previously, there was heightened awareness surrounding fire safety following several incidents, including one where a fire severely damaged multiple buildings in Lautoka. The National Fire Authority has been actively working on community engagement through training programs designed to enhance local fire safety and emergency response efforts. These initiatives aim to empower residents with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to fire-related incidents effectively.
The addition of training programs marks a positive step towards improving community resilience against such unfortunate events. By fostering a culture of safety and preparedness, communities can work collaboratively to mitigate future fire risks.
