Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson, has unveiled an exciting roster as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Chiefs at Churchill Park in Lautoka this weekend. The match, which is crucial for the Drua as they aim for their first win of the Super Rugby Pacific season, is slated to kick off at 3:35 PM, and fans are encouraged to show their support for the team as they face a challenging opponent.
Jackson has implemented several strategic adjustments to the starting lineup. The front row will feature Haereiti Hetet and Mesulame Dolokoto as props, while Zuriel Togiatama is set to start at hooker. The lock positions will include Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila, complemented by Etonia Waqa and Kitione Salawa as flankers, with Meli Derenalagi positioned at number eight. Co-captain Frank Lomani will be halfback, paired with flyhalf Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula. The wings will see Ponipate Loganimasi and Selestiono Ravutaumada, who is making his first appearance this season. In the center, Inia Tabuavou and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre will play, while Vuate Karawalevu will take on the fullback role.
The bench also presents some promising options, with Tevita Ikanivere, Emosi Tuqiri, Elia Canakaivata, and Peni Ravai ready to support the forwards. The backs’ reserves include Taniela Rokuro, Motikiai Murray, Simione Kuruvoli, and Isikeli Rabitu.
Reflecting on past performances, Jackson highlighted the importance of local support in overcoming recent setbacks, where the team experienced close losses to the Brumbies, Hurricanes, and Waratahs. He acknowledged the missed opportunities but expressed hope that the energy from home fans will inspire the team to elevate their performance and boost morale.
This upcoming match represents not only a critical opportunity to earn points but also a chance to enhance the team’s confidence as they pursue a successful season. With a mix of experienced players and emerging talents, the Drua embody a renewed sense of optimism as they look forward to celebrating a potential home victory and turning the tide in their campaign.
