Drua’s Narrow Loss Sparks Hope for Season Ahead

Despite falling short in their season opener, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson expressed pride in his players’ performance against the ACT Brumbies, where they narrowly lost 32-36 at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The match showcased the Drua’s resilience, especially considering they played with 13 men for a portion of the first half after fullback Sikeli Rabitu and winger Vuate Karawalevu were sin-binned. “We are learning, but I think we have a couple of discipline issues that we’ll review on Monday,” Jackson stated. He noted the team’s character in coming back to take the lead at halftime, showing significant improvement from prior encounters with the Brumbies.

Since joining the Super Rugby competition in 2022, the Drua have progressively tightened the gap in their matches against the Brumbies. Their scores have improved from a significant 3-42 defeat in their inaugural season to this narrow four-point loss, reflecting the team’s ongoing development.

Jackson commended the dedication of his squad, recognizing that this was just the beginning of the season. He indicated a sense of optimism moving forward, particularly as they prepare for their first away match against the Hurricanes in Wellington next weekend. The match, set for Saturday at 3.35 PM, will be a crucial test as the Drua look to build on their promising start.

This performance serves as a hopeful indicator for the Drua’s season ahead, suggesting they are on the right path and capable of contending with the league’s top teams.
