The Dragons have made an exciting acquisition by signing Tongan winger Fine Inisi from Moana Pasifika, further strengthening their squad for the upcoming season. At 26 years old and with 15 international caps, Inisi is expected to provide a dynamic presence in the back three, as well as the ability to play at outside centre.

Having participated in the 2023 World Cup, Inisi has valuable experience and will transition to Rodney Parade this summer. He has previously worked under the Dragons’ head coach Filo Tiatia at Moana Pasifika and defence coach Dale Macleod at North Harbour in New Zealand’s NPC, which should facilitate a smooth integration into the team.

Tiatia expressed enthusiasm about Inisi’s potential impact on the club, citing his strong values, attacking abilities, and skills in footwork and ball carrying. Inisi becomes the third Tongan player to join the Dragons this offseason, following back row forward Solomone Funaki and tighthead Paula Latu.

Funaki’s debut has been delayed due to medical complications after a routine knee operation, causing him to play primarily for Super Rugby Cymru teams like Pontypool and Newport. Meanwhile, prop Latu joined as a short-term solution following the retirements and injuries of key players, although he will be leaving the squad soon.

Inisi is keen to embrace this new opportunity in the northern hemisphere, excited to contribute to the Dragons’ ambitions and adapt to Welsh culture alongside his family. His signing marks an important addition to the team’s roster, with Inisi being the sixth senior signing for the upcoming season, joining players such as tighthead Dillon Lewis and flankers Harry Beddall and Thomas Young.

This signing not only enhances the Dragons’ prospects but also exemplifies the growing trend of Pacific island players making significant contributions to rugby clubs in various leagues, bringing a wealth of talent and resilience. As the Dragons gear up for the United Rugby Championship, fans can look forward to watching Inisi and his fellow new signings make their mark on the field.
